The 21-year-old Williams and the 23-year-old Turner are on the cover of the new issue of Rolling Stone for its cover story promoting the final season. "We were pretty much best friends from that second on,” says Turner, who was 13 when she and the then-12-year-old Williams for their chemistry read for the Stark sister roles. “I thought Sophie was the coolest thing I’d ever seen,” says Williams. “I get why they do chemistry reads, because when it’s right, it’s so right. Like, we’re best friends. And they could see that all those years ago, and it must have been real magic watching these two girls have the best time together.” Casting director Nina Gold says of their meeting that even in the face of a potentially life-changing audition, “there was a lot of laughter that day. Maisie seemed like a very old soul in a very tiny body. Really quite Arya-like. Sophie was more of a little girl, which she certainly is not anymore."
