Post died Saturday morning after a nearly four-year battle with cancer, her manager, Ellen Lubin Sanitsky, tells Deadline. Post is best known for playing public defender Christine Sullivan on NBC's Night Court for 159 episodes between 1984 and 1992. Before that, she starred on 65 episodes of ABC’s The Fall Guy, from 1982 to 1985, as bail bondswoman Terri Michaels. From 1992 to 1995, Post co-starred opposite John Ritter, playing a liberal political reporter on the Linda Bloodworth-Thomason CBS sitcom Hearts Afire. She went on to recur on Scrubs as the mom of Sarah Chalke's Dr. Elliot Reid. In recent years, Post had recurring roles on ABC's The Kids Are Alright and as the mother of Sophia Bush and Lou Taylor Pucci's characters on NBC's Chicago P.D. Post also played herself on the 2008 Night Court-themed episode of 30 Rock, reuniting with Harry Anderson, who died in 2018, and Charlie Robinson, who died last month. Post began her career as an associate producer on Alex Trebek’s Double Dare, and began appearing before the camera as a card dealer on NBC’s Card Sharks. She broke into series TV in 1979 with guest roles on CHiPs, The Incredible Hulk and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Her death also comes amid NBC's plans for a Night Court reboot. Post's family said in a statement: “But for us, our pride is in who she was in addition to acting; a person who made elaborate cakes for friends, sewed curtains for first apartments and showed us how to be kind, loving and forgiving in an often harsh world."
