Earlier this year, Cherry won the Oscar for best animated short with Hair Love, about the bond between an African-American father and his daughter as he does her hair for the first time. The 12-episode Young Love, based on the characters from Hair Love, takes “an honest look into the world of the Young family – including millennial parents Stephen and Angela, their daughter Zuri and her pet cat Rocky – as they juggle their careers, marriage, parenthood, social issues, and multi-generational dynamics all while striving to make a better life for themselves.” Issa Rae voiced the mother in Hair Love, but it's unknown if she'll return for the HBO Max series. Last month, Cherry signed a TV deal with Warner Bros. TV.
