Michael Che says he's paying one month rent for 160 apartments in his grandma's former public housing building

The SNL star announced the donation in an Instagram post in tribute to his grandmother who died last week due to coronavirus. "Its crazy to me that residents of public housing are still expected to pay their rent when so many new yorkers cant even work," Che wrote. "I really hope the city has a better plan for debt forgiveness for all the people in public housing, AT THE VERY LEAST." When one Instagram commenter asked why the grandmother of a wealthy comedian was living in public housing, Che clarified that she had moved out in 1990 and moved to the South.
