Tony and Carmela Soprano supported President George W. Bush, and it would seem likely they'd be big fans of President Trump (even though Sopranos creator David Chase has insisted Tony would think the president is "full of sh*t"). But lately, Imperioli has been "using Instagram to radically alter the Sopranos canon by writing impassioned pro-Joe Biden fan fiction about the show," writes Maya Kosoff. "VOTE BIDEN: Joe Biden was a long time customer at Satriale’s and yes, he loves his Gabagool,” Imperioli recently wrote, captioning a now-deleted picture of Christopher, Tony, Paulie Gualtieri, and Sil Dante. A picture of the Sopranos-universe strip club Bada Bing was captioned, “Trump stopped by the Bing one night. We gave him VIP treatment, everything on the house and he didn’t tip anyone! Zero! Stiffed the whole staff…even Peppino the bathroom attendant. Unforgivable. VOTE BIDEN.” Imperioli quickly deletes the posts because of the response they provoke in Sopranos fans. “A lot of people loved it, but a lot of people really were offended that I’d use the sacred images of the Sopranos characters to promote my own political views,” he said. After some fans who were upset about the political changes Imperioli was making to the Sopranos canon insulted him and his family in the comment section, Imperioli decided to treat the posts like Instagram Stories, which disappear after 24 hours. “It’s my way of burning away the negativity,” says Imperioli, a practicing Buddhist. “My feed remains this thing of inspiration to me.” He also extends his pro-Biden views in comments to fans. “Tony got woke in recent years,” he told a fan. “Tony took a class with Cornel West last fall. opened his eyes.”
