Tafoya tells The Athletic she originally planned for 2019 to be her last season. But Fred Gaudelli, the longtime executive producer of Sunday Night Football and a close friend, asked her to stay on through NBC’s next Super Bowl. Now that she's done reporting from the NFL sidelines, Tafoya will concentrate on conservative politics, including getting a Republican elected governor of Minnesota, appearing at CPAC and making herself available to the media as a conservative pundit. “This is absolutely my decision,” says Tafoya. “I gave (NBC) my notice three years ago hoping to be done earlier." She adds: "Everyone at NBC will back me up on that. They have always told me I can stay as long as I want. For me, I have to make my move while I’ve still got the energy to do other things and have an impact. I don’t want to wait."
