NBC News president Noah Oppenheim responded to accusations it “killed” Ronan Farrow’s expose on Harvey Weinstein, saying in a statement that they were unable to “nail” the allegations after months of Farrow’s reporting. “The notion that we would try to cover for a powerful person is deeply offensive to all of us,” Oppenheim said, adding: “Ronan, who was not working for us exclusively, began reporting on that story for NBC. We are proud of that. We launched him on that story, we encouraged him to report that story. We supported him and gave him resources to report that story over many, many months.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, Farrow’s story was supposed to run before this year’s Oscars and he even filmed an interview with Rose McGowan, which her lawyer had spiked due to fears that it violated her settlement with Weinstein.
