Chris Aiola worked on Netflix's six-part Pandemic: How to Prevent an Outbreak docuseries that anticipated the coronavirus crisis when it premiered in January. But because the docuseries was completed last year, he's been unable to talk advantage of Netflix’s $100 million COVID-19 relief fund. So Aiola has been on unemployment. As the Los Angeles Times notes, Aiola is among many writers working on documentary and reality projects who are seeking support from Writers Guild of America, East. “There is an irony in the idea that most people right now are doing the right thing and staying home and watching programming (but) the people who make that programming aren’t sure how they are going to survive,” Aiola said.
