Organizers had planned to welcome 23,000 spectators to Churchill Downs for the Sept. 5 horse race, which was rescheduled from its traditional May date. The Kentucky Derby usually has a crowd of 150,000 fans. "With the current significant increases in COVID-19 cases in Louisville as well as across the region, we needed to again revisit our planning," Churchill Downs Inc. said in a statement.
