The classic Rodgers & Hammerstein musical, which debuted in 1943, will be reimagined for a modern audience. Producers say the Oklahoma! TV series will "feature music that will be reimagined for a contemporary audience as well new tunes to support the story." The Blindside director John Lee Hancock is teaming with This Is Us producer Bekah Brunstetter to write the TV adaptation, with Hancock planning to direct the first episode. "Oklahoma!'s artistically revolutionary position in American culture has both kept it at the forefront of theatrical performances and allowed for various new innovations. This first-time ever television series will expand on the life of this remarkably resilient show," said Ted Chapin, chief creative officer at the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization. Oklahoma! recently returned to Broadway with a "joltingly dark revival."
