PEN15 has 2020's scariest TV villain in new character Maura

"As the second season of PEN15 debuted on Hulu (last) month, the new character of Maura (Ashlee Grubbs) has stirred a bunch of online chatter — and repressed memories — for many reflecting on their middle school experience," says David Mack. All the attention has delighted Grubbs. "For this to bring back memories for people just let me know I did it right,” the 15-year-old tells Buzzfeed News. “It makes me so happy. It makes me so ridiculously happy.” Grubbs adds: “I love villains so much, especially complex antagonists. My favorite antagonist is the one that does things that are scary and terrifying, but you understand them and you understand why they’re doing it. I think that’s chilling. To play a complex villain like that is so fun.”
