The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced today that “voice-only performances are not eligible in any acting category.” The rule change wouldn't have applied for Pascal last season because even though he wore a mask through the entirety of the series, he took it off in the season finale, making him more than a voice-over performer. Variety reports that the unusual nature of Pascal being mostly hidden on The Mandalorian prompted the rule. "Pascal ultimately wasn’t nominated for a Globe last year, but the unusual nature of his eligibility led the HFPA to clarify whether or not actors whose faces are completely hidden can compete," says Variety. "Since Pascal was unmasked in the finale, the HFPA confirmed that the actor could have been nominated." The Hollywood Foreign Press Association also announced another change, the addition of the term “anthology” to its limited series/TV movie category names after allowing anthologies like Black Mirror and The Twilight Zone to its list of programs eligible for Globes last year.
