American Masters – Marian Anderson: The Whole World in Her Hands will capture the life of the pioneering opera singer, known as “The Lady from Philadelphia” and “The People’s Princess." Anderson is credited with breaking down barriers for African-Americans in the arts, most memorably with her 1939 concert at the Lincoln Memorial, a protest against racial intolerance. Anderson was also the first black artist to perform at the White House, in 1936, and at the at the Metropolitan Opera, in 1955.
