An NBC News employee who worked as an intern at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics had texts that presented “incontrovertible proof of inappropriate sexual behavior on his part,” sources tell the New York Post's Page Six. The texts were the reason why NBC News was able to move quickly to fire Lauer. A source also says that the employee had hired a “high-power attorney” who would’ve gone public, possibly to another network, if no action was taken. “There’s at least one picture (sent to her by Matt) which was a major part of the evidence, which is why the firing came so quickly … my understanding was it was so damning that it was unquestionable whether or not he should be fired,” a source tells Page Six. “I think everyone was a bit surprised how quickly this all turned around. No one expected his termination to happen that quickly. I believe the silver bullet was the photo and that was so damning that they had no other option but to fire him.”
