Knight says that as the Trump administration began to attack voting by mail and the U.S. Postal Service, he, "having played one of the most iconic postmen, knew that something would happen. And I began getting contacted by various different people about reawakening Newman for this purpose." Knight says he turned down the Emmys and a former Obama speechwriter before former Veep showrunner Mandel, a former Seinfeld writer, approached him. Mandel, says Knight, is one of the few people who can capture Newman's voice.
