Four years ago, Tim Winters, president of the conservative watchdog Parents TV Council, blasted MacFarlane and his Family Guy "filth." “Until MacFarlane steps away from his sycophantic audience of frat boys and perverts, and actually stops treating rape and child molestation as jokes, no one will ever respect him," he wrote. MacFarlane responded by reaching out to Winters, and offered to let him or two writers of his choosing write an episode of Family Guy. That led to a dialogue between the two and, eventually, a friendship that has given MacFarlane a greater appreciation of the PTC. “I think it is a healthy, necessary thing for them to exist in the same world as what we are doing,” says MacFarlane. Winter adds: "If the president of the PTC and the creator of Family Guy can have this kind of a relationship, maybe other folks might be able to try to do the same."
