This afternoon, MacFarlane explained on Twitter that there was a specific reason why he made the 2013 crack in announcing the five supporting actress nominees that they “no longer have to pretend to be attracted to Harvey Weinstein." MacFarlane says his friend and colleague Jessica Barth, who worked with him on the Ted films, had a bad encounter with Weinstein. “It was with this account in mind that, when I hosted the Oscars in 2013, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to take a hard swing in his direction,” McFarlane tweeted.
