N95 masks normally sell for $2 each. But Jared Moskowitz, the director of the Florida Department of Emergency Management who had been struggling to secure N95 masks, tells the Miami Herald John approached him with an offer for 1 million masks at a cost of $7 each. The state would pay John's Shark Group $7 million. “This was not somebody off the street, this was Daymond John,’’ Moskowitz said. “He came to me and said, ‘I’ve been in the clothing business. I have connections with factories in China.’" However, the deal fell through on April 13. John could not be reached for comment.
