South Park, which was previously renewed for three seasons in 2015, has been picked up through Season 26 in 2022. Comedy Central president Kent Alterman said in a statement that the cable network “will do as many seasons" as Trey Parker and Matt Stone like. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Trey and Matt say their decision to keep going didn't involve a big discussion. I don't think we have ever had an 'OK, let's sit down and decide if we are going to keep going,'" Parker says. Stone adds: "I am 48. Trey turns 50 this year. So I will say that I don't think we will be doing this show when we're 60." (Parker points out they said in old interviews they'd stop when they hit their 40s.) This season, South Park will hit Episode 300. Trey and Matt also say they plan to take on "cancel culture," which they find really irksome. "It's new," Stone says of cancel culture, which he notes was associated with Dave Chappelle's recent Netflix comedy special Sticks & Stones. "I don't want to say it's the same as it's always been. The kids are f*cking different than us. There's a generational thing going on," he says, adding: "I know some people have been canceled for genuinely, like, personal behavior, but Dave is not getting canceled anytime soon," Stone added jokingly that South Park and Chappelle are "grandfathered" out of the culture.
