Spike Lee mourns the loss of She's Gotta Have It actor Thomas Jefferson Byrd, who was killed at age 70

Police and paramedics found Byrd unresponsive at a home early Sunday morning with gunshot wounds. Lee directed Byrd in eight movies. One of his final roles was on Lee's Netflix series She's Gotta Have It, playing Stokely Darling, the father of DeWanda Wise's protagonist Nola Darling. "I’m So Sad To Announce The Tragic Murder Of Our Beloved Brother Thomas Jefferson Byrd Last Night In Atlanta,Georgia," Lee wrote on Instagram Sunday, adding "Tom Is My Guy."
