President Trump was speaking in Colbert's home state of South Carolina on Monday when he attacked late-night hosts describing The Late Show host as a "lowlife," adding that "this guy on CBS has no talent." Colbert responded: "I think he called me ‘the guy on CBS’ because he’s afraid to say my name. Yeah. This rally was in South Carolina… I am South Carolina to the core!… I am South Carolina’s second favorite celebrity right after the Confederate flag.” To prove how talented he is, Colbert did a trick contorting his face. Colbert also played more footage of Trump bashing late-night hosts, saying: "They're not like talented people. Johnny Carson was talented." To which Colbert responded by playing a 1992 Tonight Show clip of Carson making a "Donald Trump backup mistress" joke. "He really was ahead of his time," Colbert said of Carson. "That guy's funny."
