“Recently, my network has gotten a lot of criticism—much of it from itself—because CBS News has hired the ex-president’s former chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, to ‘provide political analysis across the network’s broadcasts and platforms,’” Colbert said on Thursday's Late Show. Colbert then stared directly into the camera and exclaimed, “What the f*ck?!” Mulvaney is actually the second former Trump chief of staff to join CBS News -- Reince Priebus was hired as a political analyst in January 2020. Colbert made his comments came one day after Keith Olbermann tweeted a challenge to Colbert to denounce his own network. "So where is @StephenAtHome Colbert on his company putting @MickMulvaney on their news?" Olbermann tweeted Wednesday. "And don't say 'he can't be expected to be critical of CBS' - that it IS @CBSNews makes it even more mandatory that he say something." Colbert wasn't the only late-night host to rail against CBS News hiring Mulvaney. Samantha Bee also said "What the F?" "You know whose judgment we should totally trust?!" Bee tweeted in introducing a Full Frontal clip on Mulvaney. "The guy who played a key role in withholding millions of dollars in military aid for Ukraine, ignored Coronavirus warnings, and gave out security clearances like lollipops."
