In a study published in the Journal of American Heart Association, Columbia University Medical Center exercise physiology professor Keith Diaz found that not all types of sitting are equally unhealthy. “At work, we stand up from our desk pretty regularly to walk to a printer, copier, or co-workers desk," he says. "Some research suggests that these small bouts of activity, we like to call them activity snacks, may be enough to reduce the harms caused by sitting. In comparison, when watching TV we often watch for long periods at a time without moving.”
