The Survivor: Edge of Extinction cast member complained of her lack of screentime earlier last season before she was voted off on Episode 4. In a 4,600-word essay, Carter writes that her fellow contestants repeatedly used racist slurs and racial references, including use of the N-word. After complaints, she writes, "the tribe ended up having a very healthy dialogue about race, each person contributing a different perspective.” Andy Dehnart of Reality Blurred says of Carter's essay: "While it’s terrific that the tribe was able to talk about this, that was completely edited out of the episodes, and that is disappointing, because it clearly and obviously affected at least one player’s game."
