The TV Academy has created category for anthology series like Black Mirror, The Twilight Zone and other shows that have different casts for each episode. From now on, those anthology series will compete alongside limited series in a unified category called best limited or anthology series. The TV Academy also adapted a role clarifying what makes a TV movie and a theatrical movie, especially since many theatrical movies premiered on streaming services this year amid the pandemic. "To clarify the distinction between theatrical motion pictures and television movies during the ongoing pandemic, any non-documentary film placed on the (Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences) viewing platform for Oscar consideration will be deemed a theatrical motion picture and thus ineligible for the Emmy competition," the TV Academy said in a statement. "Additionally, the previously announced rule will apply: Effective in 2021, any programs that have been nominated for an Oscar are no longer eligible to enter the Primetime Emmy Awards competition." ALSO: TV Academy is merging the Emmy categories for variety talk series and variety sketch Series, which were split in 2015.
