The Americans inspiration Mikhail Vasenkov dies at 79

Vasenkov and his wife were among 10 Soviet sleeper agents who posed as ordinary citizens in the United States before they were exposed and deported in 2010. The Americans creator Joe Weisberg was partially influenced by the 2010 events of what came to be known as the Illegals Program to write a pilot script for the FX series.
