It was revealed this morning that The CW and Greg Berlanti are teaming up on a Batwoman TV series that will focus on Kate Kane, the second incarnation of the Batwoman character, who is described as “an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter.” The series be written by a gay woman, former Vampire Diaries executive producer Caroline Dries, and TVLine reports that the script calls for a lesbian actress of any ethnicity to take on the lead role. "Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence," reads the official logline. "But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope."
