Haddish, who is nominated for her second Grammy for Netflix’s Black Mitzvah, was invited to host the three-hour livestreamed premiere ceremony that is put on by the Recording Academy and not CBS. But Haddish says she was told she had to pay for her own way. “All of that would have to come out of my pocket,” she tells Variety, adding: “I don’t know if this might mean I might not get nominated ever again, but I think it’s disrespectful.” The Recording Academy, when contacted by Variety, noted that it's a not-for-profit organization and that performers have traditionally worked without pay. The Academy also said the situation wouldn't affect any future nominations for Haddish. “I was like, ‘The exposure is amazing but I think I have enough. I appreciate you guys asking,’” Haddish said. “And as much as I appreciate the honor of being nominated, that’s not okay.”
