The Crown Emmy winner and Outlander and Game of Thrones vet will go back in history again for a limited series exploring the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. Created by Monica Beletsky based on James L. Swanson's bestselling book Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase to Catch Lincoln's Killer, Manhunt is described as part historical fiction and part conspiracy thriller. Menzies will play Edwin Stanton, Lincoln’s war secretary and friend, who "was nearly driven to madness by his quest to catch John Wilkes Booth and carry out Lincoln’s legacy," according to The Hollywood Reporter, which adds: "The series will also feature Black historical figures whose lives intertwined with Booth’s escape, the manhunt and subsequent investigation with characters set to include Mary Simms, a former slave of the doctor who treated. Booth’s injury and provided him safe harbor following his crime." Manhunt shares the same name as the Discovery/Spectrum anthology series. Menzies, who won an Emmy last fall for playing Prince Philip on The Crown, recently appeared on the comedies This Way Up and Modern Love.
