Apple has given a straight-to-series order to the limited series TV adaptation of Killers of the Flower Moon author David Grann's 2018 book The White Darkness, from Pachinko creator Soo Hugh. Hiddleston has signed on to play Henry Worsley, in a story inspired by the real-life British explorer, who died in 2016 at age 55 during his attempt to become the first person to cross Antarctica on foot. Apple says Worsley was a devoted husband and father, a former soldier, a man of deep honor and sacrifice, but also a man deeply obsessed with adventure, manifesting in an epic journey crossing Antarctica on foot. Apple says the series will explore "courage, love, family and the extremes of human capacity." The White Darkness marks the second series for both Hiddleston and Hugh, who will serve as showrunner with Mark Heyman. The Marvel Loki vet is starring in the upcoming Apple miniseries The Essex Serpent.
