Tyler Perry to receive the 2020 Governors Award at the Primetime Emmys

Perry will be recognized during the Sept. 20 broadcast for "his achievements in television and his commitment to offering opportunities to marginalized communities through personal and The Perry Foundation programs of inclusion, engagement, employment and other philanthropic initiatives." The Governors Award was previously presented during the Creative Arts Emmys, but this year it is being bumped up to the Primetime Emmys.
