Gage, who's had guest roles on Euphoria, American Vandal, Never Have I Ever and Love, Victor, went viral over the weekend when he posted a clip of a British-sounding director apparently mocking his apartment during a Zoom casting session. "These poor people live in these tiny apartments. Like, I’m looking at his background and he’s got his TV, and you know —," the director said before Gage interrupted him. The viral clip resulted in many celebrities expressing online support for Gage. TMZ has found the identity of the director: Tristram Shapeero, whose credits include Superstore, Never Have I Ever, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, A.P. Bio, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, New Girl, Parks and Recreation, Veep and Happy Endings. According to TMZ, "the director is now suggesting he wasn't talking smack and won't say sorry ... but does claim a statement will be coming out on the matter. Funny thing is, Shapeero said sorry multiple times to Lukas on the call when he was busted, and even added that he was mortified." UPDATE: Shapeero issues a lengthy statement of apology: “Despite what is probably wise advice: to say the least possible and let this pass, I have decided to come forward, take responsibility, make the apology Mr. Gage deserves, and offer some background for my unacceptable and insensitive remarks."
