Hauck created the infamous 1986 Valerie Harper sitcom Valerie, which became Valerie's Family and then The Hogan Family following Harper's acrimonious departure over a pay dispute with NBC and the studio. “Nobody made me laugh harder, or more often, than Charlie Hauck,” said TV icon Norman Lear, who worked with Hauck on Maude. “He defined ‘funny’ and was a glorious man and friend.” Hauck also wrote an episode of M*A*S*H under a pseudonym as the request of creator Larry Gelbart.
