What if ESPN drops NFL games?

ESPN historian James Andrew Miller says the “previously unthinkable” might happen when ESPN’s NFL deal is up in 2021. ESPN is already paying $15.2 billion to show Monday Night Football games that attract roughly 11 million viewers. Given ESPN’s problems, the sports network may opt not to pay even more, especially when Monday Night Football has been diluted with bad games and the addition of Thursday Night Football on NBC and CBS.
