"The Super Bowl is such a unique event in America, the biggest event on TV," says Sports Business Journal's John Ourand of the 96.4 million viewership, the lowest since 2007. "But this had just no big event feel to it. There was no Super Bowl Week whatsoever to think of. You usually have ESPN and Fox broadcasting wall-to-wall from the host city. You get the network news anchors going and hosting from there. There was nothing like that this year. The stadium itself was a third full. Usually when teams come out in the Super Bowl, you can hear the crowd and you couldn’t hear that at all. Nobody I know attended a Super Bowl party. There was nothing that got the non-football fan to watch this game. To me, the game felt like the final game of the football season as opposed to a big American holiday. I think that that was reflected in the ratings."
