The Anchorman co-stars are reteaming for the Media Rights Capital dark comedy limited series The Shrink Next Door, based on the 2019 Wondery and Bloomberg Media podcast of the same name. The limited series -- which would mark Ferrell's first regular TV role since he left Saturday Night Live in 2002 -- is expected to be shopped to premium cable networks and streaming services. The Shrink Next Door is based on a true story, following "the bizarre relationship between psychiatrist to the stars Dr. Isaac 'Ike' Herschkopf (Rudd), and his longtime patient Martin 'Marty' Markowitz (Ferrell)," per The Hollywood Reporter. "During the course of their relationship, the all-too-charming Ike slowly takes over Marty’s life, even moving into Marty’s home and taking over his family business. The series explores how a seemingly normal doctor-patient dynamic morphs into an unprecedentedly exploitative one filled with manipulation, power grabs, and dysfunction at its finest." Michael Showalter will serve as director and executive producer, reuniting with Rudd after working together on Wet Hot American Summer. The Shrink Next Door will be written by Georgia Pritchett. Rudd is coming off a Golden Globe nomination for his Netflix TV comedy role Living with Yourself.
