Adam Sandler's latest interview featured a not-so-special guest in the form of a gnarly black eye. The actor stopped by Good Morning America to promote his new Netflix film Hustle, but host Michael Strahan was visibly distracted, telling Sandler he looked "a little roughed up."
"This is something I have to discuss, right?" Sandler said, pointing to his left eye, which was discolored and had a large scab beneath it. He went on to blame his phone for the injury, explaining that it hit him in the face in a strange "bed accident."
"I was in bed in the middle of the night and you know how they tuck in your sheets at the bottom?" said the actor. "Somebody tucked in the sheets too much and I had my phone in the middle of the bed. I kicked my feet up to untuck it, the phone went flying, hit me in the head."
The GMA hosts laughed along with Sandler as he continued, "I refused to acknowledge it. I felt blood. I said, 'There's something going on but I gotta sleep.' Kept sleeping and woke up and then..." Host George Stephanopoulos interrupted Sandler to comment that his tale was "the most elaborate black eye story ever."
"There is nothing cool about this thing," Sandler joked. "It looks so cool. I'm on the streets of New York, I see people going, 'Oh, okay. He likes to fight, that guy.' I'm like, 'It was a bed accident.'"
Sandler's Hustle, which stars Sandler, Juancho Hernangómez, and Queen Latifah, debuts June 8 on Netflix.
