Anna 'Delvey' Sorokin Cons Her Way Into a New TV Show

Not many people can land a TV deal while on house arrest, but famed con artist Anna Sorokin (aka Anna Delvey) has proven that if anyone can do it, she can. Variety reports that a new unscripted series starring Sorokin called Delvey’s Dinner Club is currently in the works. The project comes courtesy of Butternut, former Food Network president Courtney White’s lifestyle and entertainment media company. In a statement Sorokin said, “I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with Wheelhouse and Butternut to bring my vision to a wider audience and share a glimpse of the real Anna Delvey.”

Delvey was the alias that Sorokin used while posing as a German heiress living off a trust fund from 2013 to 2017, when she was arrested for not paying thousands of dollars worth of bills at a New York City hotel. She was then later convicted with grand larceny and other financial crimes related to the hundreds of thousands of dollars she stole from friends and investors. In May 2019, she was sentenced to four to 12 years in prison, then released in March 2021 on good behavior only to be then arrested by ICE for overstaying her visa. Since October 2022, she’s been on house arrest in her New York City East Village apartment, where the show will be filmed, and is currently still awaiting a final decision on her immigration status.

Most recently Sorokin’s story was seen in the Shonda Rhimes-produced Netflix limited series Inventing Anna. Julia Garner won an Emmy for her portrayal of the titular Anna in an overdramatized account of Sorokin’s crimes — some criticized the show for being too sympathetic to Sorokin. Delvey’s Dinner Club seems prime to fall under the same scrutiny.

The show itself will revolve around dinner parties Sorokin hosts in her home at what a press release for the series calls “one of the hottest tables in town.” The press materials also go all-in on referring to Sorokin as Delvey, allowing the once villainized scammer to claim her false identity as truth. Each episode will feature candid conversations around the dinner table with esteemed guests as well as one-on-one interviews with Sorokin and her guests. No details yet about where or when the series will be distributed, but in the meantime it seems Sorokin is living her Anna Delvey fantasy to the fullest.
