Emmy-nominated actress Anne Heche is currently in a coma after the car she was driving crashed into a home and caught fire in Los Angeles on Friday.
Despite Heche's publicist revealing over the weekend that the actress was "in stable condition," a rep for Heche told Deadline in a statement on Monday that her condition is very serious.
"At this time Anne is in extreme critical condition. She has a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention," the statement read. "She is in a coma and has not regained consciousness since shortly after the accident."
The crash occurred in the Mar Vista area of Los Angeles. TMZ reported that witnesses say Heche was driving her blue Mini Cooper through a residential neighborhood when she first crashed into the garage of an apartment complex. Witnesses say she then reversed and drove off before crashing into a home. The house caught fire following the crash, resulting in burn injuries to Heche before she was pulled out of the vehicle.
LAPD Officer Annie Hernandez told CNN that the actress is being investigated for misdemeanor DUI and hit and run.
A GoFundMe has been created for Lynne Mishele, the resident of the home that Heche crashed into. According to the fundraiser, Mishele and her pets "narrowly escaped" the blaze, but were all unharmed. However, the home was completely destroyed due to the scale of the fire, which took nearly 60 firefighters over an hour to put out.
Prior to the accident, Heche was busy working on upcoming film and television projects. She currently stars on OWN's All Rise and is set to appear in the new HBO series Idol. In 2018, she starred in NBC's Chicago P.D.
