Former Bachelor leads Ben Higgins and Nick Viall are unsatisfied with this season of The Bachelorette and the franchise's new two-lead format. The pair are calling for ABC to go back to having only one lead, but not before giving two leads on The Bachelor a shot.
In a new interview with E!, Higgins and Viall expressed frustration with the way the production set this season's co-bachelorettes Rachel Recchia and Gabby Windey up for competition with one another.
"If you have two leads, it's just going to be natural that it's going to turn into a competition," Viall said. "The Bachelorette doesn't expect to ever get rejected... but throw in another lead other people get to choose from, it just completely changes the dynamic of the show. It definitely puts, I think, Rachel and Gabby in a tough spot."
Higgins agreed, adding that he isn't sure that two men would handle the situation as gracefully.
"I sure would like to see it with two men and see how they handle competing against one another," Nick said. "It would be, I think, only fair and then a little entertaining to give some of the women in the cast the power, like the men have this season."
Higgins echoed Viall's statements but said he'd like the dual-lead format to end after that, saying, "I would love to see how two Bachelors do it, but then I would like it to stop. I don't want this to be a trend. I don't want this to be like a thing that happens year over year."
The Bachelorette airs Monday nights at 8 PM ET on ABC.
