WATCH: Queen Charlotte Gets Her Due in First Look at Netflix's Bridgerton Prequel

Alert the Ton: Netflix has released the first footage from its upcoming Bridgerton prequel series Queen Charlotte.

Set decades before the events of Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte follows the queen's rise to power and her marriage to King George, which sparked both a great love story and a societal shift in the Ton.

India Amarteifio (Line of Duty) plays the young queen, who arrives in London after she is betrothed to the mysterious King of England (Corey Mylchreest, The Sandman) against her will. The clip released Saturday at Tudum: A Netflix Global Fan Event reveals that their first meeting is anything but conventional, as Charlotte asks him for help escaping the palace and her future husband. Little does Charlotte know she's speaking to George himself — but at least he appears to be neither a "beast" nor a "troll".

Though young Queen Charlotte and King George's love story will form the backbone of the limited series, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story will flash-forward to include appearances from Golda Rosheuvel as the Queen in her later years. Rosheuvel appears alongside her Bridgerton co-stars Adjoa Andoh, who plays Lady Agatha Danbury, and Ruth Gemmell as Lady Violet Bridgerton.

Like Rosheuvel, Andoh is joined by a younger counterpart, with Arsena Thomas making her television debut as a young Agatha Danbury. The prequel will explore how Agatha uses Charlotte's arrival to find her own way in society and embed herself in the queen's inner circle.

Additional cast members include Michelle Fairley (Gangs of London) as Princess Augusta, George's mother; Sam Clemmett as Young Brimsley; and Richard Cunningham (The Witcher) as Lord Bute.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is written and executive produced by Shonda Rhimes, who also serves as showrunner.
