Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul Were 'Flown in Under Darkness of Night' For Better Call Saul Cameos

With only five episodes remaining in Better Call Saul, the series has yet to reveal one of the most anticipated moments: the return of Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul as Breaking Bad's meth-making duo Walter White and Jesse Pinkman. While fans eagerly wait to see how the prequel will incorporate the iconic characters, Cranston and Paul are reminiscing about the covert operation required to film their surprise appearance.

"Odenkirk insisted," Cranston jokingly told the Albuquerque Journal about the origins of their Saul appearance. "He said, 'This is my show. This is what you will do.' I was like, 'Wow. He's really changed.'"

His Breaking Bad co-star, Aaron Paul, added, "We're excited to be back [in Albuquerque.] We really are. Because the last time we were back, we had to keep it secret, you know? We were locked inside of our rentals."

"We were asked to keep it a secret forever," Cranston said, before offering details about the extreme methods production used to keep their presence unknown. "We were flown in under the darkness of night. We took this plane and they went to a certain private section of the airport there. And then we took like two steps out of the tarmac and into an SUV."

"They move us to an Airbnb — a duplex," he continued. "[Aaron] had the top floor. I had the bottom floor and we were told, 'You can't leave.'"

"It's so funny... because this was supposed to be a big surprise, a big secret. Then all of a sudden they announced that we were doing it," Paul said, referring to co-creator Peter Gould's announcement at PaleyFest in April that the duo would reprise their roles in the final season.

"So why did they keep us in a prison?" Paul joked. "Seriously, they were just messing with us."

Neither Gould, Cranston, nor Paul have leaked any information about how the show will include Walt and Jesse. However, Gould insists fans continue to miss the mark with their theories. "I haven't heard a [fan] theory that comes quite close to the actual fact," he said in June.

According to IMDb, both actors are set to appear in the July 25 episode, "Nippy."

Better Call Saul airs on Mondays at 9:00 PM ET on AMC.
