A few young girls from Camp Mystic have been missing after intense hurricane waters of the Guadalupe River and the Cypress Lake swept over their cabins, and the girls were reportedly taken in the night.

Camp Mystic has been a retreat where generations of young women have come together during their summer vacations to make friends, grow closer to their Lord, and simply enjoy the serenity and beauty of the Texas Hill Country.

However, on Friday, torrential rain hit the campgrounds, and as a result, 23 children went missing, among others.

In an email sent out early in the morning, then, in a short but chilling text message to parents, the staff of the camp delivered the crushing news, describing the situation as a critical one.

A scene of constant spiritual reverie and sunlit summer recollection, it has suddenly become the scene of a wild rescue effort, with families in agony awaiting any word on the whereabouts of their lost daughters. Volunteers, first responders, and other community members are working together to find the women.

Details on the tragic Camp Mystic case

With the normally flowing Guadalupe River becoming a raging torrent under the impact of torrential rains, Kerr County officials have warned that the situation is still developing and people in the area, especially to the west of Ingram, should avoid it at all costs.

The camp, where the 750 girls were spending the week of their camping adventure, was isolated from basic needs such as power, drinking water, and internet connection, making communication with families difficult.

Trying to allay some of the panic, camp officials distributed an email detailing that any parent with a missing child had already been notified individually, thus people who received no information could regard that their daughters were safe, at least for the moment.

Nevertheless, the ambiguity has propelled a large number of parents to social sites where they have been exchanging pictures of campers and nuggets of encouraging information about fearless escapes and rescue operations.

Authorities continue the search for unaccounted girls

At a press conference, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick recognized the magnitude of the incident and the obstacles that rescue crews encountered since the surrounding highways were either washed away or submerged. Nevertheless, the camp and local first responders are still engaged in a search to find all campers and return them to their families safely.

To most of the people in the closely-knit Kerrville community, the hope is that the next few hours will bring relief and reunification, although the floodwaters challenge their strength and determination.

In light of the current events, the camp's leaders are working hard to keep parents updated and calm as the search goes on for all the lost kids. As per the people of Kerr County, some kids have been brought back to their families, but there are still a few who have not been found. The total number of kids still missing is not known yet.

Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly spoke to the crowd, saying that at this time, they can't be sure that all kids are safe.

Updates provided to parents by camp officials

In the wake of the heavy floods that hit central Texas, leaders at Cypress Lake and Senior Hill camps have acted fast to calm worried parents about their kids' safety. The camps have sent out news that they know where each camper is, and parents whose girls were hit hard have been contacted.

They stressed that any family that hasn't gotten a call or message can be at ease knowing their child is safe and looked after.

Clint Morris, of the Kerr County Sheriff's Office, announced that six lives had been lost so far due to harsh floods. Rescue teams are working nonstop to get to the trapped folks and check their injuries.

    What is Camp Mystic?

Camp Mystic is a Christian summer camp for girls hidden on the banks of the Guadalupe River in Hunt, Texas, which has been a house of faith and fellowship since 1921. The camp was developed in the early 20th century, and generations of young girls found the possibilities to experience adventure, spiritual improvement, and everlasting friendship under the limitless Texas sky.

It's vintage recreation ground, constructed in the 1920s of sturdy native cypress, has always been a rendezvous of laughter, prayer, and legal memo items of the summertime. Located in two beautiful camps on the river, Camp Mystic has established a reputation that includes rustic charm and major emphasis on tradition, which has attracted families to come back year after year.

At this camp, kids jump into a fun area where they can find new likes and get better at things by doing lots of cool stuff. Whether they are getting set to shoot better in archery, picking up tips on how to make good food in cooking times, or yelling out loud in cheer moves, there is always something to keep them active and eager.

Fishing trips give a quiet time near water, while many sports give a lot of action for those who like to win games. But the camp's vibe is not just about being outside, its Instagram page this summer is full of bright clips where groups of girls meet to dance with energy.
