Chelsea Clinton Slams Saturday Night Live for Making Fun of Her as a Child

Thanks to Saturday Night Live, Chelsea Clinton is not the biggest comedy fan.

In the series premiere of her new Apple TV+ docuseries Gutsy, the only daughter of former president Bill Clinton and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton confesses that she lost her taste for laughing after Saturday Night Live took aim at her as a child.

While it was easy to ignore comments made by conservative voices because they usually targeted her parents, the personal jokes cut deep. "I had a different experience with comedy in some ways than a lot of people, because I was made fun of so much as a child, by people who were professional comics," she says. 

"But when SNL made fun of me, I was like, 'wow, a group of adults sat in a room, all decided this was a good idea, nobody thought maybe we shouldn’t make fun of children'," recalls Clinton. "I was like, 'oh, I just don’t think that’s funny or OK, so I just don’t think comedy’s funny or OK'."

The joke in question came in the form of a 1992 Wayne's World sketch that saw Mike Myers and Dana Carvey poke fun at the then 13-year-old's appearance. Myers later wrote an apology letter to the Clintons, and the bit was cut from future broadcasts of the sketch.
