Chris Rock to Make History with First-Ever Live Netflix Special

Chris Rock is set to make history with his next comedy special. 

Netflix announced today that Rock would be the first artist to perform live on the platform. This marks the first time the streamer has put on a global live-streaming event in its 25-year history. 

The untitled comedy special is set to stream in early 2023. "Chris Rock is one of the most iconic and important comedic voices of our generation," said Robbie Praw, Netflix Vice President of Stand-up and Comedy Formats. "We're thrilled the entire world will be able to experience a live Chris Rock comedy event and be a part of Netflix history."

"This will be an unforgettable moment," he continued. "And we're so honored that Chris is carrying this torch."

Rock has been performing on his Ego Death tour since the infamous Oscars slap in March 2022. "I'm OK, I have a whole show and I'm not talking about that until I get paid," Rock said during one show.

The comedian appeared in the Netflix is a Joke festival alongside Dave Chappelle earlier this year. His first Netflix stand-up special, Chris Rock: Tamborine, premiered on the platform in February 2018.
