The CW Capitalizes on Supernatural Success With Three New Shows

The CW has canceled eight series in recent weeks — including Charmed, Dynasty, and Roswell, New Mexico on Thursday — but it's determined to stay in the Supernatural business. All three of the network's new series for Fall 2022 feature members of the Supernatural cast, and one, The Winchesters, is a prequel to the long-running drama, which called The CW home for 15 seasons.

Set before the birth of monster hunters Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles), The Winchesters tells the story of how their parents, Mary Campbell (Meg Donnelly) and John Winchester (Drake Rodger), met and fought for not only their love, but the fate of the entire world. Ackles narrates the Supernatural prequel and serve as an executive producer on the series.

The CW has also given a series order to Walker: Independence, a prequel to Padalecki's Western reboot (he also serves as an executive producer). The drama is set in the 1800s and follows Abby Walker (Katherine McNamara), a widower who sets out to get revenge after her husband is murdered. Abby's journey brings her to Independence, Texas, where she meets a lovable rogue (Matt Barr) searching for a greater purpose of his own.

The final series on The CW's fall slate is Gotham Knights, starring Oscar Morgan as Turner Hayes, Bruce Wayne’s adopted son. When Turner and the children of Batman's enemies are framed for killing the Caped Crusader, the group of misfits forms an unlikely alliance as they work to clear their names. Supernatural star Misha Collins will star opposite Morgan as Batman supervillain Harvey Dent.
