Daily Show Correspondent Roy Wood Jr. Unsure He'll Stay at the Show with a New Host

Roy Wood Jr. isn't quite sure what his future looks like at The Daily Show. 

The comedian and correspondent, who made his debut alongside Trevor Noah in 2015, revealed he was uncertain about what was ahead for him following Noah's departure from the show. During an episode of The Daily Beast's The Last Laugh podcast, Wood said he'd definitely be interested if given the chance to take the reins from Noah, even if the details are still fuzzy to him. 

"You can’t say no to an opportunity like that," said Wood. "You can’t turn your nose up at it, at least. I think you have to sit and assess what you want to do creatively, and that’s something I haven’t thought about yet."

When asked how his role as correspondent might change under a new host, Wood shared that he'd have to evaluate his place in the new show before agreeing to stick around. "It would depend on the host. It would depend on the creative direction of the show," he said. "What are you trying to do? How do I fit into that? And does that creative direction fit my comedic skill sets and give me an opportunity to show who I am?"

"...I would want to make sure that whatever I’m doing on television — and this is Daily Show and beyond — I want to make sure that it’s something that equates to the things I find funny, and the things that I’m curious about," said Wood.

Noah's last day as host is December 8. The Daily Show will return on January 17, 2023 and "will embark on a reinvention" following Noah's departure. 

The Daily Show airs weeknights at 11pm ET/PT on Comedy Central and is available to stream next-day on Paramount+.
