Danone U.S. has quietly pulled the plug on several beloved YoCrunch yogurt flavors, including those topped with M&M’s, Oreo, and Snickers. The company issued a voluntary recall after consumers discovered clear plastic fragments, some nearly an inch long, stashed in the dome topper that holds the mix-ins. With expiration dates stretching from early July through early September 2025, the recall hooks every YoCrunch yogurt currently on shelves, both single cups and multi-packs.

As Danone scrambles alongside the FDA and its retail partners to sweep the affected stock, consumers are urged to check their fridges now. No injuries have been reported, but the potential for mouth cuts or choking (particularly among younger fans) is why this recall is serious business. Should you toss it or return it? Let’s dig into the details.

What triggered the YoCrunch yogurt recall, and how to spot the affected products

Danone U.S. launched the recall on July 11, 2025, after receiving complaints from shoppers who unearthed transparent plastic shards, measuring between 7 mm and 25 mm, in the dome toppers that house mix-ins like M&M’s, Oreo chunks, Snickers, cookie dough, granola, and Twix. Those jagged bits pose obvious choking hazards and the risk of painful mouth injuries, so Danone didn’t wait for injuries to begin pulling products off the shelves.

Though the toppings are the culprit, it’s vital to note: the yogurt itself is safe to eat, but who wants dairy and desserts with a side of plastic? All flavors and sizes in circulation are affected, including 6‑oz cups, 4‑pack minis, 8‑packs, and 18‑count club packs.

To check if your fridge is harboring tainted treats, inspect the UPC codes and “use by” dates stamped on the plastic toppers. According to the FDA’s breakdown, expiration dates include all dates between July 7 and September 4, 2025, for various YoCrunch flavors—like vanilla with M&M’s, strawberry with granola, vanilla Oreo, vanilla Snickers, vanilla Twix, and strawberry M&M/Oreo combo packs. Full UPC and lot lists are available in Danone’s official recall announcement and on the FDA site. Danone emphasizes this is a voluntary recall, carried out in coordination with the FDA.

“We take every consumer experience seriously,” the company said, adding that removing the products is “in line with its commitment to product quality and consumer safety”.

Retailers including Walmart, Target, Dollar General and regional grocers have begun pulling stock, notifying shoppers and offering refunds. Wegmans, for instance, already lets customers return affected products for a full refund at customer service desks. Consumers with questions or seeking refunds can call the YoCrunch Consumer Care Line at 1‑877‑344‑4886, available weekdays 9 a.m.–6 p.m. ET.

The root cause? A production or packaging lapse appears to have allowed pieces of clear plastic to stray into individual topper cups before sealing. Danone says it’s working “swiftly with retail partners to remove impacted product from shelves while it works to address the issue and bring YoCrunch® back to market safely.”

To sum it up: if your YoCrunch yogurt has a dome topper with candy, cookies or granola and carries a July–September 2025 expiration, it’s part of this recall. Even though the yogurt peek is fine the topping's potential for embedded plastic means it’s smarter to either toss it or return it for a refund.

Danone’s recall of YoCrunch yogurt is a classic case of better safe than sorry. Although the yogurt itself remains uncontaminated, there’s no upside to chancing a bite of plastic-laden toppings. If your fridge has YoCrunch with mix-ins and a mid-2025 “use by” date, dispose of it or return it, and call consumer care if you hit a snag. Danone says it’s working hard to fix the issue and get your yogurt snack back ASAP, but until then, it’s not worth the risk.
