Dave Kicks Off His Cross-Country Tour This April on FX

In its first two seasons, Dave rarely left the confines of Los Angeles, but that all changes this year. The third season of Dave Burd's semi-autobiographical comedy will see Dave, known by his rap name Lil Dicky, embark upon a nationwide tour, FX revealed during its (always entertaining) presentation at the Television Critics Association 2023 Winter Press Tour on Thursday.

Dave Season 3 continues to follow Dave as he searches for love in all the wrong places, but this time, the world is his oyster as he headlines his first-ever tour. As Dave and his friends — including hype man GaTa (played by himself) and manager Mike (Andrew Santino) — travel across the country, they learn about the diverse cultural landscape of the United States, as well as the pressure fame puts on love and friendship. The first two episodes of Dave Season 3 premiere April 5 on FXX.

On the unscripted side, FX's spring lineup includes Dear Mama, premiering April 21. Across five episodes, director Allen Hughs (The Defiant Ones) explores the complex relationship between Afeni Shakur, a prominent female leader in the Black Panther Party, and her son, rapper and visionary Tupac Shakur. Described as "both an audio and visual experience," Dear Mama flips back and forth between the 1970s and 1990s as it highlights the connection between mother and son, as seen through the lenses of Black activism and hip hop.

FX has also announced two new documentaries under its popular The New York Times presents banner. Debuting March 10 on FX and Hulu, Sin Eater dives into the story of Anthony Pellicano, who rose to infamy in the 1990s, developing a reputation as Hollywood's dirtiest private investigator. The two-part documentary will examine Pellicano's dishonest tactics, his eventual arrest on wiretapping and racketeering charges, and the stars and Hollywood powerbrokers who were able to get an edge over the legal system when Pellicano was exposed.

The second NYT Presents documentary, The Legacy of J Dilla, offers an intimate portrait of prolific musician, producer, and visionary J Dilla. The feature boasts exclusive access to Dilla's family, who reflect on his tragic death, his impact on the hip hop landscape, and the complications that have arisen as so many people attempt to control his legacy. The NYT Presents: The Legacy of J Dilla premieres April 7 on FX and Hulu.
