Dead to Me will soon be laid to rest.
In the trailer for the final season of the Netflix original series, Jen (Christina Applegate) and Judy (Linda Cardellini) are forced to face the music when the body of Steve (James Marsden) is finally discovered. When we last saw our leading ladies, they were the victims of a hit and run perpetrated by none other than Steve's twin brother Ben (also James Marsden), but the trailer reveals that the duo is alive and well following their accident, if a little worse for wear.
"We've been through a lot already," says Judy in a voiceover. "And we survived because we had each other."
With the police on their heels, wine to be drank, and plenty of expletive-laden banter to be had, Dead to Me looks like it's set to go out with a bang. In addition to Applegate, Cardellini, and Marsden reprising their roles, Sam McCarthy, Luke Roessler, Diana Maria Riva, Brandon Scott, and Suzy Nakamura are also set to return. Created by Liz Feldman, Dead to Me first debuted on Netflix in 2019.
Applegate recently revealed that her multiple sclerosis diagnosis made shooting the final episodes Dead to Me the hardest thing she's ever done. Though the series was nearly shut down indefinitely in light of her health concerns, Applegate insisted on seeing it through. "I had an obligation to [series creator] Liz [Feldman] and to [co-star] Linda [Cardellini], to our story," the actress explained. "The powers that be were like, 'Let’s just stop. We don’t need to finish it. Let’s put a few episodes together.' I said, 'No. We’re going to do it, but we’re going to do it on my terms.'"
Dead to Me returns for its final season November 17. The first two seasons are currently streaming on Netflix.
